MCAS 2018 Grade 10 CBT Field Test (Math)

Dear Parent/Guardian,

I am writing to inform you about the MCAS tests that your child will be taking this spring. In addition to the MCAS tests in English language arts and mathematics, your child will also participate in an MCAS computer-based field test in the following subject area:

þ Mathematics

Massachusetts is developing new, next-generation MCAS tests. Members of the class of 2021 will fulfill the MCAS part of their graduation requirements in English language arts and mathematics by taking the next-generation, computer-based version of the MCAS tests in those subject areas in spring 2019.

In order to administer these new tests in spring 2019, the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education needs to try out new test questions, including technology-enhanced questions, before the tests count for schools and students. Your child’s participation is important, and allows the state to build the best test possible. It is important that all selected students participate in the field test to ensure a representative sample.

We recognize that this will create extra work for your child, but field testing is an essential part of designing a high quality assessment. In future years, new questions will be field tested within the regular MCAS test administration.

If you have questions about the MCAS field tests, please contact me directly or visit MDESE’s MCAS page:

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support of your child’s education.
