On May 3, 2018, The Hatfield School Committee approved a $5,569,832.46 school budget. The budget uses a total of $1,204,706.58 in school choice funds,  revolving accounts, and government grants. The local appropriations in the proposed budget is $4,361,125.88. This is the amount that will be requested at Town Meeting on May 8, 2018. The original amount of local appropriations requested by the School Committee for FY'19 was $4,452,800.16.  In response to the current fiscal situation, The Committee reduced the amount being requested from the Town by $91,674.28. The reductions from the original proposed budget include: not hiring a new computer science teacher at Smith Academy, not hiring a part-time keyboarding teacher at the elementary school, and not hiring a new chorus teacher at Smith Academy. Other reductions include: cuts in money for supplies, professional development, field trips, and for the English Language Learner program. Previously, the Committee also had decided on having only one first grade teacher classroom nexy year due to both low enrollment and budget restraints.  The annual Town Meeting will take place on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at 7 pm at Smith Academy.
