SMITH ACADEMY TO HOST PRESENTATION BY DR. RUTH POTEE ABOUT THE EFFECTS OF DRUG-TAKING BEHAVIOR ON THE BRAIN

 

Dear Hatfield Community Members

The Hatfield Police Department is partnering with Smith Academy to host a presentation about how addiction and drug abuse affect the brain. The presentation is fully funded by the Hatfield Police Department through an outreach grant. The event will be catered by Smithsonian Chowder House. An attendance survey was sent out in early October for seating, food, and childcare needs. The presentation will take place on Thursday, October 18 from 6pm to 8pm at Smith Academy and will be facilitated by Dr. Ruth Potee.

Ruth A. Potee, MD is a board certified Family Physician and Addiction Medicine physician at Valley Medical Group in Greenfield, MA. She is a Medical Director for the Franklin County House of Corrections, the Franklin Recovery and Treatment Center and the Pioneer Valley regional School District, and is the chair of the Healthcare Solutions of the Opioid Taskforce of Franklin County and of the Department of Medicine at Baystate-Franklin Medical Center. She attended Wellesley College and Yale University School of Medicine and did her residency at Boston University. She was named Franklin County Doctor of the Year by the Massachusetts Medical Society in 2015.
