Smith Academy in Search of Interim Principal

October 19, 2018

Dear Smith Academy Students, Parents, and Guardians,

Dr. Andrew Berrios, Principal of Smith Academy, has accepted a new position in Connecticut and will be leaving Hatfield during the current school year. I want to thank Dr. Berrios for his six plus years at Smith Academy and I wish him the best as he embarks on his new position.   He has definitely made a positive impact at Smith Academy and will be missed.

On Wednesday, I met with the School Committee to discuss a plan to ensure a smooth transition with no disruption in the educational program for the students of Smith Academy.  On October 18th, I posted for an interim principal to serve for the remainder of the 2018-2019 school year. I anticipate a start date for the new interim principal sometime in early December.  This will provide adequate time for the search and interview process to take place. A screening committee, made up of educators and School Committee members, will be assisting me in the vetting and initial interviewing of candidates.  Parents and students will be provided an opportunity to meet any finalists and provide input before a final decision is made.  During this time, Dr. Berrios will continue to serve as Principal of Smith Academy and will work with the new principal to help provide a smooth transition.

If you have any questions please feel free to contact my office.

Sincerely,

John F. Robert
