Hatfield Public Schools to add a Comfort Dog

Dear Hatfield School Community,

The Hatfield Public Schools and the Hatfield Police Department are happy to announce the addition of the newest member of the Hatfield Police Department, Luna.  Luna will be working as a Comfort Dog, handled by the School Resource Officer, Monica Lavallee. Luna will be present with Officer Lavallee in both schools and at community events. Luna is a 2-year-old AKC yellow lab owned and trained by Officer Lavallee. Both Luna and Officer Lavallee are a therapy team certified by the Alliance of Therapy Dogs (https://www.therapydogs.com/). Luna also has her Canine Good Citizenship Certificate from the American Kennel Club (AKC) and will be testing for her advanced certificate in the Spring of 2020. While working, Luna will be leashed and handled by Officer Lavallee at all times.  All students and staff will be asked for their consent prior to interacting with Luna.  The Principals will be sharing more information about Luna with parents, and guardians, and students in the coming weeks.

Sincerely,

John F. Robert
