Update 5/1/2020

Dear HES Families,

I hope everyone is safe and healthy on this first day of May.  I am looking forward to the warmer days that the month of May is likely to bring us.  If we need to keep our distance from one another, it sure is easier to do it outside!

On Friday of last week the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education shared a document entitled "Strengthening our Remote Learning Experience".  The intent of the document was to provide school districts with guidance going forward, given that school buildings will be closed for the remainder of the year.  The state has identified the learning standards that are critical for students to master for success in the next grade level.  The state recommends focussing our teaching on these standards for the remainder of the school year.  Hatfield Elementary will continue to follow the Remote Learning Plan presented several weeks ago, and the strategies currently being used by teachers will remain substantially unchanged, however work will be connected to these standards.  A second focus the state identified in their guidance was for schools to monitor the level of student engagement in remote learning.  Our teachers will be reaching out to families to learn how students are handling remote learning, and supporting families in any way we can.

In addition to the critical standards, the state also recommends "opportunities for enrichment, exercise, and play".  Please know that the HES special teachers have been offering a variety of enriching activities that can be found on your child's google classroom.

Please take care, and enjoy your family time. I am happy to answer any questions or concerns that you may have.
