Update 5/8/2020

I hope our families have had a happy and healthy week.  It's hard to believe that we are in the second week of May, and only have five more weeks of school!

It's also difficult to believe that we have completed eight weeks of remote learning.  Since schools closed on March 13, we have gone from enriching activities, to review assignments, to focussing on critical standards.  All this as we design a brand new way to do schooling.  Because this is all so new to us, we felt it would be important to hear from you how things are going.  To help us with that, we would appreciate it if you could take a few minutes to complete the survey found at this link:

Remote Learning Survey

Teachers will begin packing up their classrooms at HES next week.  Part of this work will be gathering up all your child's belongings from his or her desk and locker.  We will be developing a plan for families to pick up the belongings at the end of May.

On behalf of our staff, I'd like to recognize and thank the PTA for their steps to make Teacher Appreciation Week special during these social distancing times.  There were many creative ideas for showing appreciation to staff and we thank you all.

Finally, as we head into this Mothers' Day weekend, I'd like to let our families how much we appreciate you, and all you are doing to make remote learning work.  We understand how hard it is for parents/guardians to be working, raising children, and teaching children all at the same time.  Many of our staff are experiencing just that.  Please know that your priority should be the health and safety of your family.  If remote learning needs to take a back seat at times, we understand and support you.  Thank you!

I hope you all, especially moms, have a restful and joyous weekend.

Tim

Lexia Reading

All HES students have been given accounts to the online reading program Lexia.  This program allows students to work independently to develop critical reading and language skills through individualized, motivating learning paths.  Students can work at their own pace.  If your child needs assistance accessing Lexia, feel free to reach out to reading teachers Heidi Poulin hpoulin@hatfieldps.net, or Sara Woodard sshapiro@hatfieldps.net.
