Update 5/22/2020

Dear HES Families,

Good afternoon everyone!  I hope your family has been able to enjoy the beautiful weather this week.

In meetings with our teachers this week, it sounds like many families and students are experiencing a "fatigue factor" with remote learning.  The newness of the process has faded,  and as remote learning has become old hat, motivation to complete school work is more challenging.  This is true for students and families, and is not surprising.  The burden and stress that has been placed on families is considerable and fatigue is very understandable.  We just ask that you to do the best you can in these last remaining weeks of school to keep children involved with their remote learning. Thank you!

Next week we will begin the process of distributing items that children left in their classrooms and lockers at the time of school closure.  Each day families from one grade level will be able to come to school where the students' belongings will be available for pick-up outside the front door.  Families with siblings will have all their students belongings at one pick-up.  The pick-up times each day will be between 7:30am - 12:00pm.  The schedule for picking up items will be as follows:

PK and KC Thursday, May 28

Grade 1 Friday, May 29

Grade 2 Monday, June 1

Grade 3 Tuesday, June 2

Grade 4 Wednesday, June 3

Grade 5 Thursday, June 4

Grade 6 Friday, June 5

Please note that next Monday, May 25 is Memorial Day, and students should take a break from remote learning on that day.  I hope you all have a safe and restful long weekend!

Take care,

Tim

Lexia Reading

All HES students have been given accounts to the online reading program Lexia.  This program allows students to work independently to develop critical reading and language skills through individualized, motivating learning paths.  Students can work at their own pace.  If your child needs assistance accessing Lexia, feel free to reach out to reading teachers Heidi Poulin hpoulin@hatfieldps.net, or Sara Woodard sshapiro@hatfieldps.net.
