Funding Continued for Covid Testing: Join Us!

April 1, 2021.   The Governor recently announced that the statewide pooled testing program, funded entirely by the Commonwealth and available to every Massachusetts public school at no cost, has been extended through the end of the school year.  Initial data collected from this initiative shows low positivity rates in Massachusetts schools – far less than 1 percent – among students and staff at this time.  Here at HPS, there have been no positive pools identified.  This project adds another layer of safety to the public health measures already in place.

Started here on March 11, weekly tests with alternative makeup days have been conducted at both schools for eligible students and staff who pre-enroll through our partner lab:  Concentric By Gingko.  Participating individuals circle a swab 4 times just inside each outer nostril and place the swab in a grouped ("pooled") collection tube for each class.  Each collection is complete in about 30 seconds.  Tubes are then registered and sent to the Lab with results available in about 48 hours. If a pooled test result is positive, then everyone in the pool is given an individual follow up rapid diagnostic test by the School Nurse.  Pooled and follow up rapid test individuals who test negative may continue participation in school.   Individuals who test positive will be dismissed home to isolate; those who identified as being close contacts of the positive individual will quarantine according to current DPH requirements.
