Good Afternoon and Happy Friday!

It’s the end of the school year here, and what a year it’s been. Through it all, I have been very impressed with the resilience and adaptability of our students, staff and community. As we move on from this year of tumult and change, I am confident that the skills learned will serve us all well.

Congratulations to our 6th graders who are moving on tonight! They have worked hard- some of them for eight years- at Hatfield Elementary School, and I can’t wait to hear about all they accomplish at Smith Academy and beyond!

Speaking of our 6th graders, if you have not yet done so, please check out the article featuring their work that was on the front page of Wednesday’s Gazette. It showcases their My History project, during which they became primary sources for life during the pandemic. https://www.gazettenet.com/Hatfield-elementary-school-students-reflect-on-COVID-19-pandemic-40845521?fbclid=IwAR0LjM3qeVUWf_YymxRqqAnsTCdHGPInRnRkUwJ5oCtVj4Ds9xvbXC3g-Ng

A reminder that Monday is a ½ day. Dismissal will be at 11:30. There is no lunch served on Monday.

I would like to thank the PTA for all of their work this year to help maintain a sense of community, and to fundraise and support our students and teachers. Throughout every year, much of the work the PTA does is in the background, but it directly supports the opportunities afforded to our kids. Currently, due to a lack of volunteers in officer positions for next year, we are at risk of not having a functioning PTA during the 2021/22 school year. This could put at risk all of the events that typically happen at HES- the Spootacular, Shamrockin, and Strawberry Festival among others. If you would be interested in learning more about becoming a PTA officer, please take a look at the PTA website for more information. It should be noted that being an officer on the PTA is open to all HES parents, whether you reside in Hatfield or not.

The PTA is hosting the Strawberry Festival on Saturday, June 19th, from 10:00-1:00. They are still seeking volunteers to help run events. Currently they could still use about 9 more. If you are interested, please see the  PTA website to sign up.

It has truly been a remarkable first year as principal here at Hatfield Elementary. While the year was not without challenges (that may be the understatement of the century), the sense of pride, community and value placed on education here has been abundantly clear. Thank you all for your support. I hope everyone has a fun, restful, and happy summer. I can’t wait to see everyone again in August!
