Good Afternoon and Happy Friday!

It’s wild to think that summer is wrapping up and that we begin school again next week!

Teachers and custodians have been hard at work getting classes ready for your kids, and we are prepared to have a wonderful school year!

As a reminder, students in 1st-6th grade begin on Thursday of next week. Kindergarten orientation is on Thursday, and Kindergarten students start on Friday. PK students begin on September 9th.

Per order of the Hatfield Board of Health, all people entering Hatfield Elementary School over the age of two are required to wear face masks. Face masks are available at the entrances to the school.

Thank you to everyone who put their names in on the bus list. We will be touching base next week with folks next week regarding individual requests. Here is a list of this year’s bus stops. Your child should board the bus at the nearest stop, and get off at that stop in the afternoon as well. In the morning, the bus route starts at 7:30. For the first few days, it’s a good idea to be ready to go then, so that the bus isn’t missed. After that, we ask that people are out about 10 minutes before the bus generally comes so that they don’t miss it. If your child misses the bus, please do not chase it. There have been some dangerous situations in the past with students running up behind the bus after they have missed it. Should your child miss the bus, please bring them to school and drop them off to keep everyone safe.

Drop off and pick up will run similarly to how they did the year before last, with all students in K-6 being dropped off and picked up at the rear of the building. Traffic should circle through the back lot, and back to Billings road through the lane closest to the school. In the morning, we will open the doors at 8:05. Please have students ready to exit the car when you pull up, so that traffic isn’t held up while backpacks are zipped or breakfast finished.

In the afternoon, students will be dismissed from the cafeteria. Parents will check in with a staff member in the rear of the school who will dismiss students from inside. In order to provide a more secure environment, we won’t be having parents enter the school at the end of the day to pick their children up.

School starts at 8:10 in the morning and ends at 2:40 in the afternoon. Students dropped off after 8:15, or not picked up by 2:50 will be asked to go to the front office to sign in late or to get picked up. If there is no staff member outside, please don’t drop your child off unattended.

At this point, we are still trying to staff our afterschool program. We will have to delay the start of the afterschool program beyond the scheduled start date of 9/6. If you know of anybody interested in becoming an afterschool activity leader, please have them apply here:

Lastly, a fun invitation to a community event. This year, Hatfield Elementary School’s BABY FALCONS will have their own bus in the Tri-County Fair’s School Bus Demolition Derby!

If you are interested in helping paint and decorate our bus, please join us at 1:00 on Sunday, 8/22 at 54 Fair St. in Northampton. Paint and supplies will be provided.

Thank you all. I am looking forward to a wonderful year!
