Baseball, Strawberries, and Planters

Congratulations to the Smith Academy Boy's Varsity Baseball Team on an excellent season and on winning the Western Massachusetts Division Four Championship. I also want to commend each of you, along with your coach, Jeff Pluta, on reaching the State Finals. Although the game did not end the way each of you would have liked, you played hard against a formidable team.  You make us all proud.

Thank you, to the Hatfield PTA for once again sponsoring the annual Strawberry Festival this year. This is such a wonderful event for the community; as well as a nice way to mark the end of the school year. Due to the conflict with the game, I was not able to personally attend the event this year, although I did place a wager on the cow plop bingo. I hope to get out to the event next year and please sign me up now for the dunking booth if you need a volunteer.

I finally want to thank Julie Mullejhan, art teacher at Smith Academy, for overseeing the planter mosaic project. Julie and her students were able to take what were ordinary cement structures placed in front of the school for use as a security barrier and turn them into beautiful works-of-art. The mosaic tiles are stunning and really do celebrate Smith Academy.. What a wonderful introduction for guest to our school. There will be a formal celebration in the fall to honor Julie and the students for the work that they have done.

Have a safe and relaxing summer.

Sincerely,

John F. Robert
