Information for Juniors- Getting Ready for Senior Year

Junior year is underway, and it's time for students to start thinking about their senior year, and beyond!
I would like to take a moment and tell you about the things that are done at Smith Academy to help prepare your child for the next chapter in their life.
During January and February: All juniors will start filling our their Post-Graduation Profile. This profile consists of interests survey's on what they may want to study in college, and/or pursue (i.e. occupation) after high school. They will also start compiling a list of colleges they are interested in. Students will go through a "college matchmaker" site to help them identify schools that match their "wants and needs".
During this time we will also look over PSAT results and talk about how to improve their scores before they take (or re-take) the SATs.
March: I will hold a parent information session on college planning and preparing for the application process. Some of the things I will talk about during this presentation are: visiting colleges, interviews, G.P.A's and SAT/ACT scores and senior year course selection.
April: I encourage students and parents/guardians to visit colleges during April break if possible. I will talk more about this at the March info session as well.
On Monday, April 3, 2016, the junior class will attend the National College Fair held at the Big E in West Springfield.
May- June: I encourage all students (and parents/guardians if possible) to meet with me to discuss their child's individual post-high school plan. During this time I will review their Post-Graduation Profile and talk in depth about their college search process.
September: Student will meet with me again to start finalizing their college list. If a student is not planning on attending college after high school, I will discuss their options with them and help them navigate their post-high school plan.
