Happy Friday from Smith Academy!

A huge congratulations to our field hockey team for a successful wrap-up of their fall season. Also congratulations to both our girls and boys varsity soccer teams for making it through the first round of the Western MA tournament! The girls play at Granby tomorrow at 11, and the boys play Mt. Everett on Sunday, home at 11.

Hard as it may be to believe, Monday is Halloween! The Student Council is hosting a costume contest, with bags of candy for winners in each grade level (similar to the spirit day winners). Please note that costumes must follow the dress code of the school and should be in good taste. Masks will not be allowed with costumes.

This year, pending School Committee approval, we are hoping to partner with Hopkins Academy to offer an international trip to Guatemala over the April vacation. There will be an informational meeting on November 1st at 6:00 P.M. in Ms. Baranoski’s room.

For anyone signed up for boys basketball, there will be a meeting next Monday, 10/31, after school in the cafeteria.

8th grade families, if you have not yet done so, please indicate if you are interested in your child taking part in the D.C. trip this May by completing this survey. Please complete it even if you do not want your child to participate. Please note that this does not obligate you to participate, but just helps us gauge interest. The survey will close on Monday, 10/31.

Please remember that when buses are stopped and have their lights flashing and stop signs out, that it is illegal to pass them.

Please see this update from our nurse: http://hatfieldps.net/node/2054

Lastly, for students: there are three opportunities to volunteer in the community that I sent out earlier, but I will post here again:

  1. Tonight is the Hatfield Elementary Spooktacular. They are in need of volunteers from 4:30-7:00. If you are interested, please email Jill Marchand at kwolek.jill@gmail.com.

  2. the craft fair on November 12th. They need volunteers for two time slots 6:30-8:30 AM and 4:30-7:00 PM. Volunteers will help carry stuff in and out, so there will be some lifting required. If interested, please see Riley in the office.

  3. The American Legion is hosting a Vet Night dinner. They are seeking 4-6 food servers. Volunteers will get a meal and the chance to connect with men and women who have served our nation. If you are interested in taking part, please contact Wendy Tataro at (413) 588 1500.

Have a wonderful weekend!
